How i train my barrel horses

To start off i make sure they can flex and bend at the pole, can move all parts of their body on cue, give to leg pressure, have a good stop, are able to turn. Then i start walking the pattren stopping when my horse is at the barrrel and backing up

This will teach rate. When my horse can do this properally, i step it up to a trot i usually walk for a month. I trot to the barrel then slow down to a trot and walk around it. I do this for about 2 weeks then trot the whole pattren for about 2 also.
